Państwowa Szkoła Muzyczna I i II stopnia im. Ignacego Jana Paderewskiego w Stalowej Woli

On 1 September 1951, the State Music Centre in Stalowa Wola began its activities. Feliks Barański was appointed the first director of the Centre, and held the post until 1 August 1952. He held his post until 1 August 1952, and then Marian Bienias took over as headmaster. From 1 December 1953, the post of Director of the State Music Centre was entrusted to Jan Jarzyna. He held this position until August 1955. After Director Jarzyna left office, Józef Aktyl became the acting Director. Initially, the Centre was housed in the Culture Centre on 1-go Sierpnia Street. Afterwards, the premises were moved to 1-go Maja Street. However, the State Music Centre shared the premises with officers of the Civic Militia - there were private flats there. Due to housing difficulties, some classes were held in the teachers' flats.

After much effort by the Centre's management and the Social Council, a new premises were approved. The school finally had a large room on the ground floor for concerts and student performances. In 1958, the Committee for the Construction of a Music School in Stalowa Wola was established, and in 1964 Henryk Łabęda took over as Director of the State Music School. His efforts led to the transformation of the institution into the State Primary Music School (1966). This was followed by a move to the current building, which was opened on 18 January 1964. He also strove to increase the number of rooms in the building by extending the second floor.
Director Łabęda was an excellent organiser of school life. He took particular care of the qualifications of the teaching staff. Regional and national auditions were held on the school premises. Concerts by students and invited musicians were very popular. In 1975 - 1980, the "Young Musicians for a Young City" Festivals were held. In November 1980, the All-Poland Piano Competition was held, which became an inspiration to organise the All-Poland Janina Garścia Competition. In the years 1981-1990, the post of Director of the Primary and Secondary State Music School in Stalowa Wola was held by Błażej Rosołowski. Initially the position of Deputy Director was held by Andrzej Strusiński. This position was later taken by Magdalena Pamuła. These years saw a dynamic development of the School. The number of students and teachers increased significantly. Especially the string and wind instrument sections developed. Great emphasis was placed on the development of vocal and instrumental ensembles. The School was equipped with new musical instruments.

The Tarnobrzeg Symphony Orchestra, led by Andrzej Kucybała, Błażej Rosołowski and Andrzej Strusiński, had its headquarters in the State School of Music I and II st. The orchestra gave a wide range of concerts, inviting outstanding instrumentalists to work with it. The year 1990 also saw the School being named after Ignacy Jan Paderewski.

Since 1990, until August 2014, the post of Director of the State School of Music I and II St. in Stalowa Wola was held by Magdalena Pamuła, while the post of Deputy Director was held by Elżbieta Nowak-Szpunar. Since September 2014 to date, the position of Director of the I. J. Paderewski State School of Music I and II st. in Stalowa Wola has been held by Maciej Witek. Since Mr Maciej Witek took up the post of Director, there has been a dynamic development of our School. Apart from its teaching function, it also plays the role of an important cultural institution in the city and the surrounding area.

We cooperate with many cultural institutions and organise numerous concerts with the participation of students of our School and professional musicians. The School also has contacts with music academies in Poland (Music Academy in Kraków, Music Academy in Warsaw, Music Academy in Łódź) and with the Odesa Music Conservatory, the "Virtuosi of Lviv" Orchestra and the Paderewski Centre (Tarnów - Kąśna Dolna). We organise seminars, workshops, festivals and competitions of regional, national and international scope. The National Festival of Accordion Chamber Ensembles and the Janina Garścia International Competition are very popular.
