30.01.2025 r.

The City of Stalowa Wola has received funding of over PLN 12 million from the Government Road Development Fund for the modernisation of Sandomierska Street. This information, marking the start of one of the key infrastructural investments in the city, was announced at a press conference by Lucjusz Nadbereżny, Mayor of Stalowa Wola.

- Today we are meeting to pass on the great news of obtaining funding for such an important investment for the inhabitants of Stalowa Wola. Sandomierska Street has been in need of modernisation for years, and we are consistently implementing this project. This is a task that will not only improve the safety and comfort of the residents of Charzewice, but also create conditions for the development of investment areas in this part of the city," noted Lucjusz Nadbereżny.

The Mayor emphasised that Sandomierska Street is an important thoroughfare, not only for the city, but above all for the residents of the Charzewice estate. It is a former national road which, over the years, has required comprehensive modernisation, both in terms of comfort and user safety. For several years now, Stalowa Wola has been implementing a project to rebuild it. The first stage, covering the section from the Regional Museum to Wspólna Street, has been completed. Subsequent stages, concerning the section from Wspólna Street to the second level crossing, and then to the administrative borders of Stalowa Wola, will be implemented thanks to the funds obtained.

- We have been working for several months on the project, which includes the crossing of two railway tracks and a comprehensive solution to drainage and sewerage problems. It is a comprehensive concept, which meets the needs of both current and future residents of this part of the city," noted Lucjusz Nadbereżny.

Scope of investment

The Sandomierska Street modernisation project is comprehensive and includes the construction of a new 6-metre-wide carriageway, two-sided pavements and asphalt cycle paths. In addition, a modern drainage system will be constructed for both the street and the adjacent areas, which will significantly improve the infrastructure of the estate. The installation of modern lighting and traffic safety features is also planned.

The length of the modernised section is over 1,500 metres. The works will also include the construction of a sanitary sewer system at a cost of almost PLN 10 million. The value of the road investment is estimated at over PLN 20 million. The funding obtained will therefore cover 60% of the eligible costs.

- This is an extremely important moment for the residents of this part of the city. For years, the residents have felt neglected, but today we can say that their patience and determination have borne fruit. The modernisation of Sandomierska Street means better infrastructure, safe pavements and cycle paths. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the realisation of this project," said Łukasz Durek, councillor of the Municipal Council in Stalowa Wola and, at the same time, a long-standing 'ambassador' of the Charzewice estate.

Schedule for implementation

The planned duration of the investment is more than 24 months, and the work is scheduled to be completed in 2027. Already at the next session of the City Council, scheduled for 7 February, the Mayor will recommend securing funds for this purpose. The announcement of the tender for the contractor is planned for the end of February/beginning of March, and the construction work itself should start in the summer or autumn of this year at the latest.

The mayor thanked all the people and institutions who contributed to the funding, including the Podkarpackie Governor, Teresa Kubas-Hul, the Minister of Infrastructure, Dariusz Klimczak, and Prime Minister Donald Tusk. - Our city effectively and skilfully prepares projects and obtains funds for their implementation. The Stalowa Wola local government acts beyond political divisions, focusing on the real needs of its inhabitants," stressed President Nadbereżny. He also addressed special thanks to the Town Hall employees, town councillors and the inhabitants of the Charzewice estate for their involvement in the realisation of this investment.

Cooperation with the Zaleszany municipality

The modernisation of Sandomierska Street ends at the administrative border of Stalowa Wola. However, the Mayor announced that talks are underway with the Zaleszany commune chief, Paweł Gardy, to realise a further section of the road that leads to the city bypass. This cooperation will allow the creation of a unified and safe traffic system that meets the needs of the residents of both municipalities.

Thanks to the funding obtained and the consistent actions of the municipal authorities, Stalowa Wola is proceeding with a long-awaited investment which will significantly improve the quality of road infrastructure in the city.
